FAQ'S

What’s the difference between garden design and landscaping, and do I need both?

Garden design is the creative and technical planning of your space - layout, materials, levels, planting design, and the overall vision. Landscaping is the physical construction of that design: excavation, paving, walling, planting, and finishing.
I handle both, ensuring the design intent is carried through seamlessly from concept to completion. Not all projects require a full design service, however, all projects benefit from our design-led approach.

How long does the design process take?

Most full garden designs take 4–12 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of the site. This includes survey, concept development, revisions, and detailed drawings.

How long does the build take?

Builds typically take 4–12 weeks, depending on access, ground conditions, and the level of detail in the design. Larger or more complex gardens can take longer, while smaller courtyards may be completed in a few weeks.

How much does a garden renovation cost?

Costs vary depending on size, materials, access, and the level of detail. We provide a clear, itemised budget early in the process which we update as we develop the design so you can see exactly where your investment goes. Many clients choose to phase the build to spread costs.

Can you work to my budget?

Yes. During our initial meeting we can discuss your budget, and we will work to that budget throughout the design stages.

If needed, I can offer value‑engineered alternatives to help reduce costs without compromising the overall feel of the garden.

When is the best time of year to build or plant?

We build gardens all year round. Hard landscaping can be done in any season, while autumn and winter are ideal for planting trees and hedges. Ideally, we endeavour to complete our gardens by late spring so that you can enjoy them during the summer months.

Can I carry out some of the work myself?

Yes - if there are elements you’d like to take on (such as planting or simple DIY tasks), we can discuss this during the design stage and structure the project accordingly. Many clients like to choose and then plant their own planting. We can support you with this if you'd like.
